Before You Begin
- Shower Enclosures - Install the decorative window film on the outside of shower stall. Steam and moisture will not affect our products.
- Wallpaper For Windows window film is typically installed on the room side of your glass doors. The side of the film contacting the backing paper is applied to the glass surface.
- For large sizes (such as for sliding doors), we recommend that two people work together to perform the installation. Besides, it will be fun!
- DO NOT WET the backing paper at any time.
Step-By-Step Installation Instructions
Measure your glass surface, transpose the measurements onto backing paper, then trim to size with scissors or utility knife. A straight edge is helpful for long cuts. Add 1/2" to 1" to length before trimming. Perform final trim after installation on glass.
TIP: When using multiple pieces, match pattern before trimming or removing from backing paper.
Clean Glass. It is very important that the glass be clean.
TIP: Use a scraper to remove any paint splatters or hard materials that may be stuck to the door or window, and clean thoroughly with any household window cleaner.
After cleaning window, but before starting to apply, WASH YOUR HANDS. This prevents dirt and oils from your hands from getting between film and the glass as you apply it.
Using a spray bottle filled with water and 1 to 2 drops of liquid soap (do not shake bottle), set spray bottle to a mist setting. Thoroughly WET GLASS, wetter is better.
CAUTION: Make sure that NO WATER gets on backing paper.
TIP: Completely wetting the glass makes it easiest to position the film & squeegee out air bubbles.
Remove film completely from backing paper and position on glass. The side of the film touching the backing paper is applied to the glass surface.
TIP: Use the side of your hand to smooth out any large bubbles. The film will then “float” on the glass for you to move into its final position.
TIP: If film is misaligned just peel it off, re-spray, and reapply.
Once in place, use your soap and water spray bottle to wet the front of the film, then squeegee out all air bubbles with the free applicator (squeegee) or a credit card. This will keep the squeegee from dragging on the film.
TIP : Work from the center of the area to the edges.
TIP: If an edge of the material will not lie flat, use a hair dryer on a low heat setting to warm the film until it becomes pliable. Remove heat and hold film in place for 60-90 seconds or until material cools to room temperature.
Removal and Storage for Re-use
- To remove, simply peel the window film from any corner. It comes off cleanly leaving no residue.
- When not in use, window film must be replaced and stored on the original backing paper. The side of the film that touched the glass should face the glossy side of the backing paper.
Wall Decal Installation Instructions
The Tools You Will Need
Installing your DecoStat Wall Decals
- Smooth Walls
- Painted Walls
- Sanded Wood (without lacquer)
- Inside, temperature controlled environments
Surfaces NOT Recommended:
- Brick or Cinder Block
- Porous, textured paneling
- Outside, non-temperature controlled environments
- Unpainted Walls or Textured Walls
- Freshly painted walls. Wait 30 days after painting before you put up your Fathead decal.
Step 1: Getting Ready
Pick A Spot. DecoStat wall decals adhere well to smooth, indoor surfaces. The Recommended and NOT Recommended surfaces are listed above. You want to choose a RECOMMENDED surface.
Measure. You don't want to start only to find out you don't have enough room.
Unwind And Relax. If you'd been rolled up and stuck in a box you'd need to relax for a bit too. Lay flat for an hour prior to application. (We're talking about the decal, not you)
Step 2: Get CleanYou like clean sheets, DecoStat decals like clean walls. Use a warm damp cloth to wipe down the surface and let it dry completely. DO NOT use soap or cleaning agents. They can make your decal stick poorly, which means it could fall down, and that's just ugly.
Step 3: Get HelpNo need to call 911, just get a friend. This is only important if you're putting up one of our LARGE DecoStat wall decals. Here's why: you'll start peeling the decal off the sheet when you realize it's as big as you… and it's sticky. When it sticks to itself, you'll say something nasty, and then you'll wish you had called that friend.
If you're putting up a small collage or decal, then going solo is OK.
Step 4: Get It On
With help from that friend you called, start at the top of your DecoStat wall decal and carefully peel it from its backing.
Place one corner on the wall and slowly smooth the rest into place using minimal pressure. If you make a mistake, gently peel the decal off the wall and reposition it. Take your time and you'll do just fine.
All DecoStat wall decals come with a white plastic credit card squeegee to help you get out any wrinkles or air bubbles. USE IT! Start from the middle of your decal and push out to the edges.
Keep the backing in case you want to move your wall decal to a new location.
